Wow - it is deep Summer already!

Silverwalk is a small, private, licensed dog sanctuary in Cape Girardeau County, MO. It specializes in Beagles, other hounds, and senior, special needs dogs. There are always dogs needing adoption and sponsorship. Please see our website for more information about Silverwalk and our dogs needing homes.

July 7 - Whew, June blew right past me. We were on flood watch most of the month as Iowa and Northern MO/Eastern IL were inundated w/rain, flood water and failing levees. One end of the road to Silverwalk is impassable thanks to the Mississippi but the highway I meet from the other end finally opened up again this morning; yesh! no more driving the flood route!

Silverwalk is FULL with lots of young Beagles, a couple older ones (Mimi and Lilah) and our usuals. Chip came into the house the afternoon of the 4th, whether impelled by the neighborhood fireworks or just wanting to be w/the pack more, I wasn't sure - till Saturday, when he came in again and has been coming in ever since. Poor Monk still stays outside but is closer.

Gillian, a new friend I met when visiting Joy, Virgil and Sparky (a Silverwalk alumnus) in Ordway, CO last fall, now has a new home after losing hers in the brush fire earlier this year; very devastating for Ordway but they are a resilient people. Please keep them all in your prayers.

Welcome to Clarence, a lost, red and white Beagle boy about whom no one responded despite his being listed in the paper and at the local humane society :(. He is a real sweetie and perhaps has a home already depending on his HW status. Keep your paws crossed for Clarence - check out his photo - what a handsome dog.

Lilah, Ginger and Fred are still with us as there is no room for them at their shelter in Marion, AR. They have finished their HW treatments (yeah!) and got their first monthly preventative. Please check them out. You must have a fence to adopt a Beagle! I have learned that the hard way :(.

Silverwalk has three pretty consistent Friday afternoon volunteers who have already helped wash crates, walked Scout, petted Sheila and Farrah (feats in themselves! as both are very shy), and poop scooped so the Dachshunds would have less to feast on :). I am so thankful Michael let these college students, John, Tetsu and Onku, know of Silverwalk's needs and for their faithfulness in helping out. Thanks so much, guys!

Have a wonderful summer. I really will try to update this blog more often as there is always news!

Peace,
